Founder & Lead Educator
Megan's journey to founding At Home in the Forest began in an unexpected place: the examination room of a veterinary clinic. With a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and a background in pure mathematics, she had built a successful career grounded in science, precision, and care for living beings.
But when she became a mother, everything shifted. Watching her own children navigate the public school system, seeing their natural curiosity dim, their anxiety rise, and their love of learning fade, she knew there had to be another way.
So she created one.
Megan homeschooled her children, successfully helping her daughter catch up two grade levels in math through play-based, relationship-centered learning. When they returned to public school part-time, they were grade-levels ahead in reading and math. She discovered what research has long shown: children thrive when they feel safe, connected, and free to explore.
"I started At Home in the Forest because I believe every child deserves to feel the magic I see in my own children when they're outdoors: curious, confident, and completely themselves. This isn't just a business for me. It's my calling."Megan Davis
The best educators aren't always found in traditional classrooms. Sometimes they're found in the forest, with mud on their boots and wonder in their eyes.
Years of scientific training and hands-on care for living beings
Strong analytical foundation and love of learning
Guided her own children through personalized education
Trained in trauma-informed approaches to support children's emotional safety and well-being
Megan's veterinary training taught her to observe carefully, respond thoughtfully, and care deeply for beings who can't always tell you what they need. These same skills make her an exceptional educator for young children.
Her background in pure mathematics means she understands how concepts build upon each other, and how to make even "difficult" subjects feel natural and achievable through play.
Years of Scientific Training
Children Successfully Homeschooled
Passion for Children's Growth
Commitment to Every Child
These aren't just principles. They're promises to every child and family who enters the forest.
In a world that often rushes children through milestones, Megan creates space for each child to unfold at their own pace, honoring who they are right now.
Drawing from research and lived experience, Megan knows that children learn best when they're engaged, curious, and joyful and free to move their bodies, not stressed and pressured.
The forest offers lessons no textbook can teach: resilience from weather, patience from seasons, wonder from discovery, and confidence from real challenges.
Before any learning can happen, children need to feel safe and connected. Building trust is always the first priority.
Megan isn't just an educator. She's a mother who has felt the same worries you feel. She's lain awake wondering if the traditional path is right for her children. She's watched her kids struggle and questioned everything.
And she's found answers that work.
When you entrust your child to Megan's care, you're placing them with someone who will treat them with the same attention, patience, and love she gives her own children. Because she knows exactly what's at stake.

I've had the pleasure of watching Megan interact with both her own children and mine as they play and explore outdoors through every season. She brings such patience, knowledge, and gentle guidance to each moment, helping the kids notice the little wonders in nature, ask questions, and learn through curiosity. Her thoughtful approach and deep respect for children's natural rhythms make her a perfect person to lead a forest school.
